Lead Software Engineer
Proximie is on a mission to improve healthcare by transforming the world’s operating rooms into connected ecosystems of people, devices, and data.
Our Intelligence Suite transforms operating room (OR) performance, keeping teams in sync and workflows on track to maximise throughput. Simultaneously our computer vision and AI capabilities capture real-time data and detect surgical events – improving quality of data outputs. The result: ORs are optimised like never before – with predictive analytics and automated notifications ensuring patients and staff are in the right place at the right time.
Once practitioners are in the OR, our Surgical Suite enables real-time remote access and creates a secure video record of every procedure; improving training, education, and collaboration. It is an intuitive asset which helps instil a culture of continuous learning, accelerates the adoption of cutting-edge medical devices, and enhances surgical performance across the entire global workforce – improving outcomes and saving lives.
Proximie was commercialised in 2019 and is available in over 800 facilities globally.

Position Overview
Proximie’s engineering organization is the heartbeat of the company - responsible for bringing to life a suite of products that deliver measurable clinical and operational value. Our platform empowers surgical teams worldwide to improve patient outcomes, optimize OR efficiency, and harness data for smarter, more connected surgery.
As Proximie continues its global expansion, we are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join our UK engineering team. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, this role serves as a player-coach within a high-performing product engineering pod - blending hands-on technical delivery with leadership, mentorship, and architectural guidance. You’ll operate as a flexible, technology-agnostic generalist, setting the standard for engineering excellence across front end, back end, cloud, and data environments.
We’re looking for a resilient, strategic, and entrepreneurial engineer who thrives on solving complex problems and driving meaningful impact in a mission-driven environment. Success in this role would be establishing a pod culture defined by technical excellence, ownership, and reliability. It would be delivering robust, scalable features that improve Proximie’s clinical and operational impact and finally if you are seen as a trusted technical leader shaping direction, elevating standards, and mentoring others effectively.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a small team of engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Act as the technical authority within the pod, guiding architecture, design, and implementation decisions.
- Partner closely with Customer Success, Product and Design to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions.
- Own the delivery of full-stack product features using ATDD and BDD methodologies.
- Drive best practices in testing, CI/CD, code quality, and security.
Ensure solutions meet regulatory, security, and operational standards (including GDPR and HIPAA). - Maintain and evolve systems for an always-on, distributed environment with zero-downtime deployments.
- Research and prototype emerging technologies (e.g., computer vision, generative AI, telemetry) to support future product capabilities.
- Balance technical innovation with pragmatic execution, delivering results that scale.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field — or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience building high-performance applications in a SaaS or enterprise setting.
- Deep expertise in building and scaling modern web applications (React/TypeScript, Node.js, cloud-native APIs), including component library design and scalable frontend architectures.
- Solid grounding in automated testing, continuous integration, and delivery pipelines (CircleCI, GitHub Actions, etc.).
- Experience deploying and operating applications on AWS (or similar cloud platforms), including use of containerized services and infrastructure-as-code.
- Awareness of regulated environments (GDPR, HIPAA) and best practices for secure, data-sensitive design.
- Curiosity and hands-on exposure to modern technologies such as computer vision, generative AI, or data analytics.
